STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a breakout first half to his junior campaign, MSU right handed pitcher Dakota Hudson has been named to the 2016 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, USA baseball announced Wednesday.

The Dunlap, Tennessee native owns a 2.08 ERA (4th in SEC) in 60 2/3 innings of work this spring. Hudson has fanned 67 opposing sluggers (6th in SEC) while only issuing 21 walks, leading the Bulldogs to four Top-11 series wins in 2016. The Bulldog ace set an MSU record earlier in the season, tossing 34 2/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. That streak came to an end against No. 1 Florida in Gainesville.

The award is presented to college baseball’s player of the year. Semifinalists will be announced June 1 with finalists selected June 13. The 39th Golden Spikes Award will be presented June 30 in Los Angeles, California.

Former Diamond Dawg first baseman Will Clark received the Golden Spikes Award in 1985. Clark became the second player from the Southeastern Conference and first Bulldog to take home the award.
