Diamond Dawgs Scrimmage Wednesday, Ranked No. 19 in NCBWA Poll

Mississippi State University BaseballSTARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State baseball will host its fourth preseason scrimmage Wednesday at Dudy Noble Field, head coach John Cohen announced Tuesday. The 4:45 p.m. scrimmage, which features a pitching matchup of junior right-hander Zac Houston versus freshman righty Keegan James, is free and open to the public.

State opened up preseason practice this past weekend with a trio of intrasquad exhibitions. Junior Nathaniel Lowe was named MSU’s Hitter of the Week after hitting .714 (5 for 7) with four RBIs and three doubles. Junior southpaw Vance Tatum earned MSU Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing three shutout innings Saturday with three strikeouts and no walks.

In other news, Cohen’s ballclub was ranked No. 19 in the 2016 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division I preseason poll, the organization announced Monday. The poll was the sixth and final preseason poll to be released, with the Diamond Dawgs being ranked in the top 20 of each one.
