STARKVILLE, Miss. – In anticipation of Opening Day February 13, the preseason No. 14 Mississippi State baseball team has partnered with the MSU Student Association to host the second annual baseball #CowbellYell Tuesday, Feb. 10, at Dudy Noble Field on campus.
Doors to the free event open at 6 p.m., with festivities beginning at 6:30 p.m. While the event is aimed to increase student involvement within the program, all fans are invited to the ballpark to help usher in the 125th season of Mississippi State baseball. Due to men’s basketball playing at 8 p.m. against Alabama, normal basketball parking rules will apply.
This season, the first 2,000 students will obtain a 2015 Dudes t-shirt, marking their participation in MSU baseball’s student fan group. Starting at 6 p.m., students can join the 2015 Dudes program by scanning their student ID’s outside the “Player’s Lounge” door, which is located in the concourse area behind home plate. Students will enter the playing field through the MSU locker room before picking up their free shirt in the Bulldog dugout. For the first time at the event, students will be able to experience #CowbellYell from the field, rather than the chairbacks.
Starting at 6:30 p.m., fans will get their first look at the new intro video, hear from director of athletics Scott Stricklin and help Hobie Hobart lead the 2015 rendition of the MSU Roll Call.
In addition, fans will hear from head coach John Cohen on the upcoming season and the purpose and importance of the Dudes, listen to comments from team captains Wes Rea, Seth Heck and Trevor Fitts and watch current Oakland Athletics right-hander Kendall Graveman throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The festivities will conclude at 7:10 p.m. with fans coming together with Cohen and players to take the official “2015 Dudes” photo.
Immediately following the photo op, students and fans are encouraged to join the baseball team in going next door to the Humphrey Coliseum to root on men’s basketball. Students must enter through the normal student entrance of The Hump located on the west side of the building. Free pizza will be available for students while supplies last. Halftime will also feature Kings of the Court, the highly entertaining acrobatic dunk team of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Last February, #CowbellYell became the largest attended student baseball pep rally in the country, with more than 2,500 students attending.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will take place in the Palmeiro Center.
