John Cohen Agrees To Four-Year Extension With Mississippi State Baseball

STARKVILLE, Miss. – John Cohen, the 2016 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year who guided Mississippi State baseball to its first SEC regular season championship since 1989, has signed a four-year contract extension through 2020 as head coach of the Diamond Dawgs, Director of Athletics Scott Stricklin announced on Friday.

Brent Rooker To Compete in College Home Run Derby

After leading the SEC Champions with 11 home runs in 2016, MSU DH Brent Rooker has been invited to compete in the 2016 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Nebraska, the publication announced Monday.

Joining the other top sluggers from around college baseball, Rooker will look to take home the crown over the holiday weekend at 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 3 on ESPN2.

Rooker led MSU with 11 dingers during the 2016 season and also paced the squad with 54 RBI’s. During his team’s run through the NCAA Tournament, Rooker blasted four home runs in five games.

The Germantown, Tennessee native is currently playing summer ball in the prestigious Cape Cod League with the Brewster Whitecaps. Rooker is second on the team with a .421 batting average and has 16 hits in just nine games this summer.
