After leading the SEC Champions with 11 home runs in 2016, MSU DH Brent Rooker has been invited to compete in the 2016 TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby in Omaha, Nebraska, the publication announced Monday.

Joining the other top sluggers from around college baseball, Rooker will look to take home the crown over the holiday weekend at 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 3 on ESPN2.

Rooker led MSU with 11 dingers during the 2016 season and also paced the squad with 54 RBI’s. During his team’s run through the NCAA Tournament, Rooker blasted four home runs in five games.

The Germantown, Tennessee native is currently playing summer ball in the prestigious Cape Cod League with the Brewster Whitecaps. Rooker is second on the team with a .421 batting average and has 16 hits in just nine games this summer.

Seamless transition? Coaches say new ball should boost offense — but maybe not in CWS

Ran across this Saturday night and took a minute to read it.  Brought back memories of the 1998 CWS which they talked about in the article.  That was my first trip to Omaha.

I remember Mark Freed taking the mound for us in the elimination game against Southern Cal.  Mark threw pretty hard then.  Low 90’s I think.  Had two balls come back at him at an excessive speed.  So much so that one ball took his glove off his hand and carried it toward second base.  Those bats were hot.  And then came the LSU-Southern Cal football game that Raz and Bryan went to.  21-14.

Will the new balls bring back memories of the Launching Pad on the Hill?  Naaaa.  Not even close.
