Sims owns lowest ERA among Power 5 student-athletes on the publications list
STARKVILLE – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has announced its Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List and Mississippi State’s Landon Sims has been tabbed as one of the 65 student-athletes on the publications list of top closers.
So far in 2021, Sims has earned the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week and an SEC Newcomer of the Week award. On the opening weekend of the college baseball season, Sims fanned 10 of 12 batters he faced over four perfect innings of relief work, which included entering a bases loaded, no outs situation and not allowing a run to cross the plate versus No. 9 Texas.
He posted a two-save weekend against Ole Miss (April 16-18) to earn the conference’s newcomer of the week award, saving the series opener and series finale to give MSU its fifth SEC series win of the season.
He currently ranks No. 4 in the SEC in saves with five on the season and owns a 0.67 ERA in 27 innings of work. His 2-0 record in 12 appearances is highlighted by 53 strikeouts to just eight walks. He has surrendered two runs on 12 hits and has stranded five of eight inherited runners.
Among the pitchers on the list, Sims owns the third lowest ERA of the group, a mark that is best among Power 5 pitchers on the list.
